"Wild Thing" is a New Wave Children's Book That Shows Compassion and Respect for All Wild and Tame Animals
MICHAEL VICK...SHAME ON YOU! We expect a great big apology to all of us who love wild and tame animals. Move over because we are going to fight anyone who abuses and kills animals and for fighting dogs or other creatures to the death for money. What a thing for children to hear. AGAIN, S H A M E ON YOU ! Regarding Animal Abusers The question is not, "Can they reason?" nor, "Can they talk?" but rather, "Can they suffer?" ~Jeremy Bentham Of course, they suffer. Anyone treating animals badly need to suffer in the same way. An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. |

H E L L O !!!
MY NAME IS MILLY CROTHERS AND AM KNOWN TO MY YOUNG READERS AS "GRANDMA MILLY".. I AM A 72 YEAR OLD GRANDMOTHER IN EAST LANSING, MICHIGAN AND I HAVE PUBLISHED MY FIRST BOOK, A CHILD'S BOOK, ABOUT SHOWING COMPASSION AND RESPECT FOR WILDLIFE AND OTHER TAME ANIMAL CREATURES.I FELT IT VERY IMPORTANT TO RELEASE "WILD THING" RIGHT AWAY AFTER BEING INSPIRED TO TRY AND COUNTERACT THE HORRIBLE ACTIVITIES OF ANIMAL ABUSERS. DUE TO ALL THE HYPE RECENTLY ABOUT CELEBRITIES AND OTHERS MISTREATING ANIMALS BY USING DOGS FOR FIGHTING TO THE DEATH FOR FINANCIAL GAIN, I FELT IT NECESSARY TO INFORM CHILDREN THAT IT IS WRONG TO ABUSE ANY ANIMAL. WHAT MUST THE KIDS HAVE THOUGHT WHEN THEY HEARD THIS ATROCIOUS NEWS?
IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT CHILDREN KNOW AND LEARN TO RESPECT WILD AND TAME ANIMALS AS YOUNG AS POSSIBLE. DON'T KIDS HAVE ENOUGH TO CONTEND WITH, WITH ALL THE NEGATIVE ISSUES IN THEIR LIVES ON IN THE MEDIA; VIOLENT GAMES, PEER USAGE OF DRUGS, SEXUALLY ORIENTED SALES ADS AND SHOWS, BROKEN HOMES, ONE PARENT FAMILIES, WAR AND RISING NUMBERS OF CRIME?
CAVANAUGH ELEMENTARY SCHOOL'S PRINCIPAL ALLOWED ME TO READ THE MANUSCRIPT OF "WILD THING" TO THE CURIOUS, EAGER CHILDREN OF ONE OF THE SECOND GRADE CLASSES. WONDERFUL FEEDBACK WAS OBTAINED FROM THEM. THEY HAVE ALL PARTICIPATED IN HAVING THEIR DRAWINGS OF SEVERAL CHOICES OF REPRESENTATION IN THE BOOK AND WILL BE RECEIVING AGREED UPON ROYALTIES FOR THEIR SCHOOL'S PTA IMPROVEMENT FUND.
ILLUSTRATIONS WERE JUDGED 2 DAYS PRIOR TO THANKSGIVING.
AS A RESULT OF THE KID'S INTEREST, I WORKED CLOSELY WITH THE CLASS TAUGHT BY JEFF TOMBOULIAN. THEIR REGULAR ART TEACHER ALSO HELPED TO GUIDE THEM IN THE PRELIMINARIES. CASSIE BROGAN, ART INSTRUCTOR AT LANSING COMMUNITY COLLEGE, WORKED ONE ON ONE WITH THE WINNER TO REFINE HER ENTRY. THE CONTEST WINNER RECEIVED A $50 US SAVINGS BOND AS WELL AS HAVING HER DRAWING DISPLAYED PRECEDING THE TITLE PAGE OF THE BOOK AS THE BEST ILLUSTRATION OF DOTTY THE BEAR. A STUFFED BLACK BEAR TOY WAS PRESENTED TO THE CLASS FOR THEIR LOVING CARE AND PROTECTION.
THE WINNER...AND ME

"WILD THING" IS AN EDUCATIONAL, FUN AND EMOTIONAL STORY ABOUT DOTTY, AN ORPHANED BLACK BEAR CUB THAT WAS RESCUED BY TWO RETIRED FOLKS WHO LIVED IN A LOG HOUSE NEAR GAYLORD IN NORTHERN MICHIGAN. THEY OBTAINED A PERMIT TO BE REHABILITATORS AND CARED FOR THE CUB UNTIL ITS RELEASE INTO THE WILD.
I WISH TO DEDICATE THIS BOOK TO MY 9 YEAR OLD GRANDSON, JACK
DOTTY'S FUNNY ANTICS AND HOW SHE LEARNS ARE FOLLOWED BY SOME SADNESS WITH HER BRINGING HER BABY CUBS BACK NEARLY 3 YEARS LATER TO HER FOSTER PARENTS BEFORE SHE WANDERS AWAY NEVER TO BE HEARD FROM AGAIN.
THERE IS STILL MORE INFORMATION ON SHOWING COMPASSION FOR ANIMALS AND WHY CREATURES OF THE WILD SHOULD NOT BE DISTURBED. MICHIGAN'S DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES WILDLIFE DIVISION HAS INCLUDED A COMMENT.

"A LONG WINTER'S NAP"
AND IS ABOUT SEVERAL CURIOUS AND STUBBORN, FUN LOVING, CAREFREE CREATURES WHO TOOK A LATE VACATION TO DISNEY WORLD. THEY SUDDENLY FIND THEMSELVES FACED WITH DANGER, INJURY, COLD WEATHER AND NO BED. THE FIRST TIME HIBERNATING ANIMALS, INSECTS AND AMPHIBIANS ARE WILLING TO LEARN AFTER THEY FACE WINTER HEAD ON WITHOUT PREPARING. THEY FIND OUT THAT WORK COMES BEFORE PLAY AND THEY MUST PLAN AHEAD. THEIR ADVENTURE IS EDUCATIONAL, HUMOROUS AND SCARY.
FINALLY, ALL THAT MATTERS IS THAT MAYBE, JUST MAYBE, "WILD THING" WILL TOUCH THE HEART AND SOUL OF ONE CHILD. THERE IS FAR TOO MUCH, (EVEN ONE IS TOO MUCH), ANIMAL ABUSE. LEARNING TO BE COMPASSIONATE AND RESPECTFUL IS THE BASIS FOR ALL SOCIETY, ESPECIALLY IN THIS EVENT WHERE I TRY TO PASS THAT THEORY ON IN SOME SMALL WAY TO OUR YOUNGER GENERATION. REACHING CHILDREN WITH PROPER EDUCATION IS THE ONLY TOOL THAT WILL GUARANTEE A LOVING AND CARING SOCIETY FOR ALL.

PLEASE READ A SHORT EXCERPT FROM PAGES 9-11
"...Soon, spring would arrive and with it, the warm sun and robins would appear. Oh, boy, Spring. What a wonderful time of the year. More of the snow would be melting away, and the air would be getting warmer. Mrs. Martin could hardly wait to see her purple crocuses poking their heads through the still remaining snow in a few weeks. She glanced out the window and wished time would go faster.
It was late March. Grandma Sally was in the kitchen cooking breakfast. Wonderful smells of frying bacon drifted out the open window that she raised to let in the fresh, cool air from the woods. All of a sudden, she heard a noise on the back porch that sounded like someone rattling some tin pans. She quickly checked through the steamy door window and would you believe? A little black bear cub was digging through the tipped over trash can, not even caring about the big black dog barking inside. “I’m only interested in the garbage that is in this bunch of leftovers. I will eat anything. This chicken gravy, old bananas, lettuce and potato skins are like a Sunday dinner to me”, baby bear snorted as it gobbled up the feast.
Grandma Sally was afraid to open the door to shoo the small thief away. “I better be careful. Its mommy might be near by, and that could be dangerous”, she told Joe. So, she waited and waited, and the poor little hungry bear cub kept right on searching for more to eat. The baby still was not paying any attention to the log house, its door, or the barking and jumping Tar-tar.
For three days, the Martin’s did not dare to go out of doors. They let Tar-tar out the front door, snapped on his leash, to only go to the potty and brought him right back inside. Joe told Sally, “I heard that bears usually don’t like dogs. If the mother happens to be out there, she might attack. We don’t know for sure.”
The curious and noisy dog kept barking at the baby bear who kept hanging around the back of the house and in the wood shed. Mr. and Mrs. Martin began to worry about the small intruder starving. It obviously had been sleeping in the shed, but it would keep coming back to the house and the trash can. “I feel so sorry for the poor little thing. It’s getting awfully thin”, Joe told Sally.
Well, it didn’t look like the cub’s mother was going to come back. So, on day four, Grandpa Joe gave the baby some warm milk mixed with some dry dog food in an old pan. Baby ate and ate and drank and drank, on and on for a long, long time. Grandma Sally said, “I’m going to check on the computer and find out what bears like to eat.” After she found out, she gave the friendly black baby some tuna fish, strawberries, blueberries, raw potatoes and some spinach leaves. She couldn’t find any of the recommended bugs or grubs for the cub’s meals. The tiny black bear ate several times a day and soon Sally coaxed the furry creature into the log house to enjoy its warmth. “I like it in here. It’s so warm and comfortable and cozy”, the happy cub told Tar-tar..."

ITS PAST TIME TO TAKE A STAND AGAINST ABUSE IN ANY FORM, AGAINST ANYONE OR ANYTHING. WERE THERE NO ABUSE...POSSIBLY THERE WOULD BE LESS ANGER, MORE LOVE, MORE RESPECT, MORE COMPASSION, MORE CARING, MORE CONCERN AND MORE KINDNESS. THAT SOUNDS LIKE A GOOD PLAN TO ME. WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF EVERYONE IN THIS WORLD PRACTICED THOSE WORDS? IT ALL BOILS DOWN TO THE GOLDEN RULE, DOESN'T IT?
BY THE WAY, I THOUGHT YOU MIGHT LIKE TO MEET MY LITTLE FUR KID FRIEND, HEIDI. SHE IS 11 YEARS OLD, NOW, AND IS MY CONSTANT AND DEVOTED COMPANION. HOW CAN ANY HUMAN BE CRUEL TO OUR GOD GIVEN CREATURES?
"I LOVE YOU"
